Infinite online whiteboard with zoom and scrolling
A borderless canvas that you drag with the mouse or two fingers and zoom from 5% to 400%, allowing you to switch from a general view to detail without leaving the board.
The board never ends. The limit is what you have to share, not the size of the screen.
FlowBoard draws each board on a borderless SVG canvas: you start in the center and keep placing shapes, notes, and arrows in any direction without hitting the edge of a page. To move, drag the map with the hand tool, with the spacebar pressed, or with the mouse's middle button; scrolling has inertia, so a quick drag continues sliding and stops on its own. The mouse wheel scrolls the canvas and, with Ctrl or Cmd, zooms in right where your pointer is.
The zoom ranges from 5% to 400%. At 5%, you have a bird's-eye view of the entire board; at 400%, you adjust the thickness of an arrow or the text of a note. The middle button of the zoom control returns you to 100% with a touch, and if you hold it down, it goes back to the origin of the canvas. There’s also 'fit to content', which frames the whole board, and 'fit to selection' (Shift+1), which zooms in only on what you have selected.
To help you not get lost, there's a minimap in the corner: it shows all the content and the rectangle of what you're viewing, and you can drag that rectangle to jump to another area. The search bar and the frames panel do the same by name: you choose a result, and the canvas centers on it with a smooth animation.
To prevent lag, the canvas is virtualized: only the elements and connectors that enter your view are drawn, plus a 20% margin. Below 25% zoom, the text is hidden, leaving only the silhouette of each element, and the minimap switches to simplified mode after 500 elements. Each board supports up to 1,500 elements and 1,500 connectors. The position and zoom are saved within the document, so when you reopen a board, you appear exactly where you left off.
