## In summary

- Create flowcharts online with 20 shapes and smart connectors
- Rectangles, diamonds, terminators, cylinders, and documents linked with arrows that automatically connect to 8 anchors, bend wherever you want, and dodge anything in between.

## Create flowcharts online with 20 shapes and smart connectors

20 types of elements on the same sheet: the 12 classic flowchart shapes (decision diamond, terminator, document, cylinder, predefined process…) plus notes, icons, images, tables, cards, and frames for grouping.

Magnet to 8 anchors: when you bring the end of the arrow close, the eight points of the box light up and it snaps to the nearest one; wherever you move the box, the arrow goes with it.

Three paths for the same arrow: straight for directness, orthogonal for a clean right-angled diagram, and curved for loose schemes, changeable in one click without remaking the connection.

Waypoints by hand: drag the line where you want it to go and it bends there, up to 20 points per connector; drag the point away and it disappears.

Dodge anything in between: with “Avoid elements,” the orthogonal path is recalculated with an A* search over a 12 px grid and surrounds the boxes instead of crossing them.

Labels on the arrow itself: double-click and write “Yes,” “No,” or the condition, in bold and italic, and the label travels with the line when you move it.

Change shape without remaking anything: a rectangle turns into a diamond while keeping its text, style, and all its connectors, and the 24 px grid with alignment guides keeps the diagram straight.

Start with the flow already set up: “Flowchart” template with start, process, decision, and end connected, AI generation from a sentence, and import from Mermaid, draw.io, and Visio.

Open a new board and choose the “Flowchart” template, which already has start, process, decision, and end connected, or start from scratch. To add boxes, select the shape from the toolbar and drag it onto the canvas; double-click to write inside. To connect them, activate the connector tool (C key), start from one box and drop to the next: the end snaps to the nearest anchor. If you prefer to start from text, describe the process in a sentence and FlowBoard's AI will draw the first draft on the board.

How do I make a flowchart online in FlowBoard?

The 12 process shapes are rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, diamond (decision), triangle, hexagon, parallelogram (input/output), star, document, cylinder (data storage), predefined process, and terminator (start/end). Additionally, there are sticky note, formatted text, icon (catalog of 120), image, frame, table, card, and group: 20 types of elements in total. Any geometric or flow shape can be converted to another without losing its text, style, or connectors.

What flowchart shapes does it include?

Yes. Each end of a connector is saved as “element + anchor,” not as a coordinate: when you move, resize, or rotate the box, the path is recalculated, and the arrow continues to emerge from the same point. Each element offers 8 anchors (the four sides and the four corners), and the magnet activates at 26 px distance with a mouse and 40 px on a touchscreen. In Settings, you can also enable free connection on the edge, which allows you to anchor the end at any point on the shape's perimeter.

Do the arrows stay attached to the boxes when I move them?

Yes, by activating the “Avoid elements” option on the connector. With the orthogonal path, FlowBoard recalculates the route using an A* search over a 12 px grid, and the line surrounds the elements it finds in between instead of crossing them. This works when the connector doesn't have its own waypoints: if you've bent the line manually, you dictate your route. Straight and curved paths always go from point A to point B, and here you control the fine details by dragging the line to create waypoints (up to 20 per connector).

Can I prevent arrows from passing over other boxes?

In both directions. FlowBoard imports Mermaid code (pasted or from file), .drawio files from draw.io, .vsdx from Visio, and copies in JSON, and exports to PNG, SVG, PDF, JSON, and Mermaid. You can also display the diagram full screen in presentation mode without leaving the app. Each board supports up to 1,500 elements and 1,500 connectors, auto-saves while you work, and keeps up to 30 versions in case you need to go back.

Can I export the flowchart or bring it from another program?

FlowBoard is the whiteboard and diagram editor from AIsToHire, and flowcharts are its specialty. Each board supports 20 types of elements: 12 shapes designed for processes —rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, decision diamond, triangle, hexagon, parallelogram, star, document, storage cylinder, predefined process, and terminator— plus sticky notes, formatted text, icons, images, frames, tables, cards, and groups. You select the shape from the bar, drag it onto the canvas, and it aligns to a 24 px grid with alignment guides; if you change your mind, the shape change converts a rectangle into a diamond while preserving the text, style, and arrows it already had.
Arrows are drawn using the connector tool (C key): you start from one box and drop to another. When you get within 26 px of an element (40 on a touchscreen), its 8 anchors —north, south, east, west, and the four corners— light up, and the end snaps to the closest one, so when you move the box later, the arrow follows without detaching. If you prefer not to rely on the 8 points, you can enable free connection on the edge in Settings, allowing you to attach the end at any point on the perimeter. An end can also remain loose at a point on the canvas or start on another connector to branch a path without touching the boxes.
Each connector supports three paths: straight, orthogonal (at right angles), and curved. Drag any point on the line and a waypoint is created that bends it right there —up to 20 per connector— and dragging it away removes it. If you enable “Avoid elements,” the orthogonal path is recalculated with an A* search over a 12 px grid, and the line surrounds the boxes in between instead of crossing them; once you add manual waypoints, you dictate your route. Everything else adjusts too: double-click on the line to write the label (“Yes,” “No,” the condition) in bold and italic, five ends per side (none, triangle, open triangle, diamond, and circle), solid, dashed, or dotted lines, four thicknesses, color, and a note with links and attachments.
The diagram doesn't stay in the browser. Each board supports up to 1,500 elements and 1,500 connectors, auto-saves while you work, retries if the connection drops, and keeps up to 30 versions to revert to. You can start with the “Flowchart” template —start, process, decision, and end already connected— describe the process in one sentence and let the AI draw it, or import what you already have in Mermaid, draw.io (.drawio), or Visio (.vsdx); “Automatically rearrange” repositions the boxes by layers when the flow gets messy. And when it's ready, it can be exported as PNG, SVG, PDF, JSON, or Mermaid, or projected full screen in presentation mode.
